Cash Games

What is a Cash Game?

A cash game is the most regular type of game a Poker player will play. The buy-ins for cash games range from 20 to 100 Big Blinds. What this means is that if you are playing on a $0.05/$0.10 table the minimum you can bring is $2.00 and the maximum is $10. If you player on $1/$2 tables you can bring between $20 and $200.

There is no fixed start of finish time for Cash Games, a game starts when there are at least two players sitting at a table and will end when the last players leave. A game will have a maximum number of players.

You can find table information in the lobby area. After a game has started you may leave the table at any time and if there is a seat available new players may join at any point in the game.

How to Choose a Table.

There are a range of Cash Tables, from heads-up to ten-handed, the limits can be very small and can go up to $1,000+ blinds. No-Limit, Fixed-Limit and Pot-Limit games are available.

The first thing to decide is whether to play full or short-handed. In a full-ring with up to nine other players you can expect to play about 60 hands each hour. The same number of hands can be expected at the fast and furious Sixpak tables. Heads-up games are just one-on-one.

Basic Strategy

A Cash Game will really test your poker skills, if it is your first time playing at a cash game a good tip is to try and do the opposite to the rest of the table. This means that if it is an aggressive table you should be more passive and try and trap people with your big hands. However, if your opponents seem timid make lots of bets and you should win pots without too much hassle. Remember that poker is also about playing the players not just the cards!
