Omaha High/Low

Omaha Hi/Lo shares the same rules as Omaha, with the addition of another way to win part of the money in the pot.

Like in both Omaha High and Texas Hold’em, the player with the best hand is the Hi winner. However, in Omaha Hi/Lo there can be a Low winner aside to the Hi winner. The Low winner will have a hand consisting of five different cards below the value of nine. Both “pocket” and “community” cards can be used to build a Low hand, the only constraint is that two cards must be “pocket” cards.

Game Sequence

The game follows the same structure as regular Omaha Hi; it begins with the blinds and continues with four betting rounds and the dealing of “community” cards. In the “showdown” there is the option of a winning low hand; an example would be 8, 6, 5, 4 and 3 of any suit. If there is a Low winner the pot is divided in half between the Low and High winner. If there are multiple Low hands the winner is the player whose hand makes the lowest possible number, for example, the hand mentioned above would be read as 8,6 and 5,4,3. In this case the pot is divided between them.

There is not necessarily a Low winner in every round. It is also possible for one player to have both a Hi and Low hand using different combinations of the “pocket” and “community” cards.
