7 Card Stud Poker

The Buy-in

The buy-in is the amount of chips a player has to buy in order to play at a certain table. The minimum amount of a buy-in will be equal to 10 times the sum of the lower betting limit in that game. For example, if the betting limits are 5/10, then the minimum buy-in will be 50.

Sit-down

The table is surrounded by a maximum of 8 players.

Ante

7 Card Stud requires that you ante-up before the cards are dealt. The sum of the ante will depend on the betting limits of your game – in general, the lower the limits, the lower the ante. For example, on a 10/20 table the ante might be 1, but on a ½ table it will be 0.25.

Betting

  • The initial bet: Players are dealt 2 hole-cards face-down and 1 hole-card face-up. The player that has the lowest ranking face-up card by suit (clubs, then diamonds, then hearts, then spades) must make the first bet, which has to be at least half of the lower betting limit. This player is prompted.
  • 3 face-up cards are then dealt individually, with each followed by a round of betting. Then, a final face-down card is dealt and followed by a round of betting.
  • Each round contains certain betting limits, which are determined by the stakes offered at the table. The first 2 betting rounds are limited to the lower one, and it is only when a player has a pair after the 4th Street that he/she can bet more than the lower limit – up to twice that number. For example, if the betting limits are 5/10, then the player can bet up to 10. The last 3 betting rounds are limited to the table’s higher betting limit. In the 2nd round, players are allowed to bet the higher limit, yet this is on the condition that all subsequent bets will be at least that amount.
  • William Hill Poker allows players 1 bet and 3 raises, the final raise of which being capped. By this stage a player can only call or fold.

Showdown

If all 8 players are still in the game by the River round, then there will not be enough cards for each of them to receive their own card. In such a situation, a River card is dealt face-up on the table and used as a community card for all 8 players.Your final Poker hand must be comprised of 5 playing cards. The player with the highest ranking hand according to Standard Poker hand rankings wins the pot. If several players have the same hand, then the pot is split, with the left-over amount given to the player sitting to the dealer’s immediate left.

Start Again

The dealer button is passed onto the player to the left of the previous dealer once the game has ended and a new one begins. Then, a new hand is dealt.

  • Fold
