Texas Hold'Em Poker
Up to ten players are allowed to sit at each Texas Hold‘em table. The buy-in is the amount of chips a player has to buy in order to play at a table and is determined by the table’s stakes. In all No Limit and Pot Limit games worth 0.25/0.50 or less, the buy-in is valued at 20 times the lower betting limit. This means that at a 0.25/0.50 table game, the buy-in will be 10. The Blinds: The Button is an icon on the table that looks like a disc; this indicates where the dealer sits and specifies the order or betting amongst players. Before any cards are dealt, the two-players left-most of the Button must place live bets called Blinds. The player to the immediate left of the Button must place the small blind, half the amount of the lower betting limit, and the next left-most player must place the big blind, the amount of the lower betting limit. They are called ‘blinds’ because the players must make them before seeing any of the cards. After each hand the Button moves a space to the left. The bet amounts of the game are limited, predetermined by the table stakes: The buttons that are displayed on the screen when it is NOT the player’s turn are fold, call, bet and raise. When it is the player’s turn, however, the buttons that are available for use are fold, check and raise.Sit down
The Buy-in
At all Fixed Limit games, or No Limits and Pot Limits that have higher table stakes, the buy-in is valued at ten times the lower betting limit. On a 3/6 table, for example, this would make the buy-in worth 30.The Game
Pre-Flop round: Once the blinds are placed, each player is dealt two pocket cards face down. This is followed by the first round of betting in a clockwise direction beginning with the player sitting left of the big blind. This leaves the big blind player with the advantage of betting last in each round.
Flop round: Three community cards are now dealt face up to the table for all the players to use. This is followed by a second round of betting in the same order as the first round of betting.
Turn round: A fourth community card is dealt face up on the table, followed by a third round of betting again in the same order.
The River round: A fifth community card is dealt face up on the table, followed by a final round of betting.
The Showdown round: This is the final stage of the game where all remaining players in the game reveal their hands to one another. The best five-card hand is awarded the pot, the hand ends, and the Button moves one place to the left.Betting
