The William Hill Poker Times is a monthly collection of poker strategy, tips and stories. Subscribers receive a newsletter and entry to invitation only tournaments and competitions.
Whether by train, plane or automobile (more likely a fast powered speedboat out here, hopefully not pursued by the US DEA), but almost every player heading to the Caribbean for the 2007 CPC had hit the Island by Tuesday morning. Consequently the poker action was becoming hotter than the local Clam Chowder and William Hill players were more than holding their own.
In Tuesday night's $200 + 20 re-buy Satellite, Hills' on-line player 'bigmac' (not to be confused with the big whiskered Channel Four racing pundit!) had a roller coaster ride before narrowly failing to make the top table and land another seat for a Hills player in the main event. Having doubled up with a pair of sixes in the previous hand he went all in with a pair of Queens but was denied the pot when his opponent landed Trip Kings on the River. I think all the dancing he was doing on the catamaran must have tired him out, a fact he strongly denies! Luckily we have video evidence.
Mic260872, who qualified through our Freeroll promotions in the Sun newspaper, also narrowly missed the final table by coming 14th from 186 starters. So a very well done to both of them and better luck tonight!
Danb29 reversed his previous day's unlucky exit when beating Hills visiting PR Director, David Hood, when the pair reached heads-up in a private sit and go involving numerous licensees from the poker fraternity. However, the Hills' pride was restored in the early hours of the morning when DH landed the cash in the next event, scalping a number of Hills players including 'PKRKING' and Norwegian 'Flyndre' in the process.
A new poker phrase was created in the process when he repeatedly went All-In with "To hell with it, its time for bed" only to double up no less than 4 times! We now expect to hear this term voiced by Hills players during some part of the week, hopefully with as much success!
Unfortunately, William Hill player 'Top_DJ' could be a candidate for the 'So Near Yet So Far Award' this week, having finished 10th in Tuesday's super satellite. Had he secured 9th place then yet another Hills player would be seated in the main event tournament, which begins on Friday. Though clearly gutted by the experience of getting so close, we are sure the $2,000 he pocketed will go some way to erasing any heartache.
Top_DJ's loss was 'Lee27015' gain though as he did the Hills brigade proud by becoming yet another player to qualify for the Final event. The chances are that he won't be the last.
Wednesday's 2pm game - $300 + 30 Freezeout
With almost 200 starters, this tournament promised a decent prizepool, but williamhillpoker regular 'Tatchels' was cruelly routed this afternoon when for the 2nd time of the week he was beaten by Diamond Flush on the river. So unlucky! Hopefully when he plays tomorrow it won't be strike three.. He was pleased to see his beloved Chelsea thump Rosenberg in the Champions League, not such a good result for William Hill though, so we won't dwell on that will we Tatchels.
Tere22041 (may I say the best dressed man on the Island even though his suitcase is yet to join him courtesy of either Gatwick or Caribbean luggage handlers!) lasted just a tad longer than our very own James McKay who suffered a bad beat within the first fifteen minutes of play (James went all in with pocket aces), a good effort from the Hills' lad, not! I will be removing his William Hill shirt next time he plays.
Karaoke tonight at Sugar's Bar. You can hear Natalie practising her Barry Manilow from here to the Copacabana, Could It Be Magic for Mandy tonight? She Can't Smile Without You, because You Write the Songs. Make her stop! Though are we not a bit too close to the Bermuda Triangle for all this chintz??
In our next episode we will let you know whether we get back in one piece!
