The penultimate EPT of the season was set in a tucked away corner of north west Italy on the cusp of the French Italian border. Despite it's slightly limited access from Nice Airport, (the closest one), the event is a complete sell out meaning the prize pool will be around 3.5 million Euros.
Julian Thew started off well enough, before running Aces into a flopped set of Sixes meaning he was out early on. The other Brits also didn't fair too well, Nick Gibson, Peter Gould, Steve Jelinek and Dan Carter also did not make it through the day, leaving Roland De Wolfe pretty much flying the flag alone in the latter stages of Day 1A.
Since we were in Italy, there was a lot of attention on home favourites such as Dario Minineri, Luca Pagano and Cristiano Blanco, though the latter of these three also failed to make it through. Whilst up sparring for the chip leader are wily French veteran Paul Testud and former EPT
champion Brandon Schaefer.
Tomorrow will see more Brits in action in the form of WSOPE runner up John Tabbatabai, Mark Goodwin, Roberto Romanello and Stuart 'Pen Thief' Rutter.
Follow the action by the blonde live Update Team as they play towards the money tomorrow from 3pm (2pm UK time).
