The 11 returning players were quickly knocked down to 9, but it wasn't the ones who might have been expected to go. Paul Gourlay doubled up through Joe Grech first hand with Sevens vs K-J, managing to hit a full house.
Joe Grech then pushed over the top of Nik Persaud's button raise with A-K, Nik calling with A-Q, but the flop came out K-Q-Q, no more help for Joe and he was forced to exit in 11th place. Soon after, Zachary Ford had A-A vs Steve Littlejohn's Q-Q, crippling him and eliminating him soon after giving us our final table line-up.
In the first hand Pete Linton was check/raised all-in on an Ad Ts 2s board and called for his life with Ah 6c against Charles Ihle who held the big drawing Ks Qs. The flush hit the turn and Nottingham boy Linton was out. Zachary Ford knocked out Paul Lammas next with 9-9 vs A-Q, and then a short-stacked Paul Gourlay moved in from the small blind with A-6, only to be called by Nik Persaud's K-9 which flopped a King then also flushed eliminating our third player beginning with 'P' from the final table.
Persaud also knocked out the next player too, Kings holding against Laurance Houghton's Ace Queen. Marc Goodwin, the chip leader at the beginning of the day, managed to crack Aarun Bernard's Q-Q with A-2 after the latter had sneakily slowplayed his hand preflop getting Goodwin to set him in, Aarun duly called but Goodwin flopped two pair to regain the chip lead.
With the short-stacked Charles Ihle losing a coinflip in 4th place, and Zachary Ford going in 3rd, this left us with the two big stacks and favourites playing heads-up. Goodwin holding a chip lead of just over 2:1 against 3-time GUKPT finalist Nik Persaud. The battle was very cagey early on, until Goodwin managed to win a couple of crucial pots to grind Nik down to a short stack. In the final hand, Goodwin held A-8 on a A-3-T board against Nik's K-T. A turn Jack gave Nik extra outs, but the river was also a Jack, giving 'Mr Cool' the title.
