The William Hill Poker Times is a monthly collection of poker strategy, tips and stories. Subscribers receive a newsletter and entry to invitation only tournaments and competitions. If the tournament poker bug bites you, where should you start off? Online or, if you have the option, bricks and mortar cardrooms and casinos? As with the Single Table Tournaments I talked about recently, it's the payout structure that determines how you diverge from "normal" strategy in a super satellite. With No-Limit Hold 'Em seemingly taking over the tournament world, is there any point learning other games ? Before you say "No", there are a few points that are worth considering. In many ways, Sit and Go (referred to as SNG from this point) tournaments give you "the best of both worlds" between tournament and cash play. The blinds increase rapidly, allowing a good tournament player to "move through the gears" and adapt his play to the stack vs. blind ratio. Last time I was talking about tournament strategy and how it related to the payout structure. This time I'm going to look at the second key difference between tournament play and "unrestricted" live play, which is, that you cannot add to your chips (except in a rebuy tournament, which I haven't time to mention here but might address in a future article), and you cannot cash your chips in before the end of the tournament. What is Poker Times?
