EPT Dortmund - Day 1A
The year might have changed, but we're still right in the middle of EPT Season Four, with the Dortmund leg starting today at the Casino Hohensyburg. The scenic mountain retreat might be an unlikely (although excellently equipped) venue for poker, but with a near sell-out day one and similar numbers lined up for the second flight, it appears that poker players in their hundreds are quite prepared to make the journey and stump up the now EUR 8,000 buy-in.
Julian Thew Wins Second GUKPT Title
The final nine players reconvened at the Brighton Grosvenor Casino today to battle it out for the GBP86,000 first prize, complete with added seat to the Grand Final. The finalists included well-known circuit regulars Joe Grech, chip leader and former Grosvenor Grand Prix winner Jim Reid, Marcus Bebb-Jones and of course William Hill-sponsored Julian Thew.
GUKPT Brighton Day 1B
A fullsome group of 147 players gatherered together to fight it out for the right to make the latter stages of the first leg of this year's GUKPT, held at the Brighton Grosvenor Casino. Last year's champion and dedicated hat wearer Dave Smith was in attendance, although he wasn't able to emulate his achievement this year, as he was eliminated in the early stages.
GUKPT Brighton Day 1A
A 133-player field braved the January rain and made it down to the seafront Grosvenor Brighton casino for Day 1a of the first GUKPT event of 2008. The field was predictably strong, famous names and fearsome faces studding the card room. Among them were former GUKPT winners Jerome Bradpiece, Praz Bansi, Mike Ellis and William Hill's own Julian Thew, as well as UK poker legends Willie Tann, Mickey Wernick, Ian Woodley, Jennifer Mason and Vicky Coren.
