The William Hill Poker Times is a monthly collection of poker strategy, tips and stories. Subscribers receive a newsletter and entry to invitation only tournaments and competitions. With a new £2500 sixteen runner heads-up comp added to the London schedule it meant the festival ran for eleven days. This was a little too long for me to be away at the moment, so I arrived on the Saturday & pencilled in five events, concluding with the 1500NL main event. I’m fortunate enough to live just a ten minute drive away from Dusk Till Dawn & when I’m around I love playing their big monthly £300 freeze-out. March continued the recent trend of big fields with another 300 plus players prepared to travel for a shot at the 100k prize pool. Despite the lack of TV for this years series the numbers were good for the first event of the year, with two hundred and eighty runners showing up. I played Day 1a and despite dribbling 2500 off in the first level I finished level 2 with nearly 20k, thanks to taking out a short stacked Willie Tann and then getting a full double up courtesy of aces that managed to hold. I travelled out there with family in tow and I think the wife and I might have tired of the Vegas style tack-fest were it not for the two boys - it sure was a paradise island for them. I spent a week in London at the closing UKPT festival and got off to a great start by finishing second to Neil Channing in the 1000NL. I'd got to the final in good shape, but on that day, Neil was a different class. He held the chip lead from start to finish and just didn't give anyone any leeway at all. He played his big stack very well and was the deserving winner. This was my third trip to Baden and its slightly awkward location meant it was the smallest field so far in season 4, with (just) 282 runners. I had a tough starting table with Barry Greenstein and another very aggressive player immediately on my left. As in Plymouth last month I got off to an awful start, donking off 4k to Greenstein when I put him on a move; I guess I was half right, but ultimately my J-J was no match for his rivered flush. A whole year has passed since I last visited the Vic and it's a whole lot more pleasant now that it's been given a makeover. The top floor is now dedicated to poker and, better still, the dress code has been relaxed! I played Day 1b and this is, unfortunately, a rather brief report as I met my demise halfway through level 5.What is Poker Times?
