Rebuy Tournaments
Rebuy tournaments are online Poker tournaments that allow players to purchase more chips within a predefined time frame of the tournament. This is considered a highly valuable benefit for players, since most players do not enjoy having to leave a tournament early simple because of a silly mistake or unfortunate bad beat. In Rebuy tournaments, players can take advantage of the ability to purchase extra chips if they accidentally bust or if their chips fall below a certain amount.
Take the following situation, for example:
You’ve entered one of our $5 Rebuy tournaments, looking forward to an entire evening’s worth of Poker fun. You begin with the regular initial 2000 playing-chips, yet after only a few minutes and an unfortunate bout of bad luck, you lose them all. Obviously, it would be very irritating to have to leave the game there and then, yet in a Rebuy tournament, a special pop-up window offering you the chance to purchase more chips and stay in the game appears when you bust. For only $5 more, you can save your seat and keep playing with an additional 2000 chips, simply by clicking on ‘yes’ before the next hand. What a relief!
How to Rebuy
Players are eligible to Rebuy if their chip stack is lower than or equal to their original chip amount (usually 2000 playing chips). Their eligibility is indicated by the “Rebuy” button on the table, which disappears when the players cease to be eligible. Rebuys are also limited to the tournament’s high limit, and can be purchased in 3 different ways:
- By clicking ‘yes” in the pop-up window which appears when you bust, fall below your original chip amount or before the add-on break begins.
- By clicking on the “$” button on the table
- By clicking on the “Rebuy” button.
If you request a Rebuy and then win back enough chips to pass its threshold, the Rebuy request will be automatically cancelled. If you are playing in an add-on tournament, then Rebuys can only be made before the add-on break starts. A window will appear offering you the chance to request one, yet will close if you do not do so by the time the add-on break starts, so make sure you don’t miss out!
Don’t let a bad-beat lose your seat in the tourney. Recover early or simply stock up while you’ve got the chance – that’s what Rebuys are for!
Where to Rebuy
Rebuy tournaments are listed along with all of our other online Poker tournaments. You can find them in our tournaments menu on the software simply by searching for the word “Rebuy” in the tournament names. It is important to go into the tourney with a plan, though, for the Rebuy option doesn’t leave you with too much decision-making time!
When to Rebuy
Players are allowed to purchase Rebuys during any of the first three levels of the online Poker tournament. The level of your tournament will be displayed in the bottom of the main window of the Poker software, and will also indicate to you how much time is left before the next level kicks off. If you lose all your chips, a pop-up window will automatically appear offering you the option to Rebuy.
Add-on Tournaments
An “add-on” is the ability to purchase more chips, and designed to allow players to increase their chip-stack. Add-ons are limited to the same amount players received upon starting in the tournament, and are available only in the later stages of the game, when the Rebuy period has long but passed. Buying an add-on involves paying a small fee, which is always listed in the tournament page of the software. Generally speaking, though, the add-on amount is the same amount paid at the beginning of the tournament for the initial chip purchase (IE – the buy in).
The Difference Between Add-ons and Rebuys
Rebuys offer players the option of purchasing more chips when they have either lost them all or fallen below the original chip amount within the early stages of the tournament. They are designed to save players from the unexpected bust or loss of all their playing chips at early stages of the game. Add-ons, however, allow players to purchase additional playing chips regardless of how many chips they are already holding. The idea with add-ons is to increase your chip-stack for larger bankrolls which, are usually needed during later stages of the tournament.
Freezeout Tournaments
Freezeout tournaments are the most commonly played online Poker tournaments. The main idea in Freezeout tournaments is that players will continue competing until they have no more chips left. Once they run out, they are out of the tournament, and so the number of remaining players gradually decreases. This way, the last player left is clearly the winner, and he/she can be determined within a shorter period of time. The inability to Rebuy or add-on causes most players to finish their take in the tournament quickly. Others are often cornered by more experienced players who All-in at an early stage. Whatever the reason, Freezeout tournaments are highly popular, and are ideal for anyone looking for a quick dose of Poker fun! If you haven’t got the time but you’ve got the urge, Freezeout tournaments are definitely for you!
